If you happen to be a film buff, and if, on top of that, you’re a sucker for chick flicks and chick lit, then Ali McNamara’s books are just the thing.
My Mum got me From Notting Hill With Love… Actually last year and I really loved the character of Scarlett who’s so involved with movies that she wishes her life to be one. Luckily for her, it turns out to more than one movie, and as we follow Scarlett through London and Paris, fans of romantic comedies will enjoy the non-stop quotes and re-enacted scenes from your favourite movies. Scarlett is in search of her long lost mother, but on the way she’ll find a lot more than she bargained for…
I recently bought and just finished reading the second book, From Notting Hill To New York… Actually and it’s really made me want to got to NYC! Scarlett is back and this time she’s off to meet her Dad in the Big Apple. Of course, knowing Scarlett, no day is dull and she’s soon sucked into an adventure bigger than she ever imagined. And all this just because she found an old brooch…
Ali McNamara writes very likeable characters, and while this is not high literature, it is extremely entertaining if you enjoy the genre. I’ve found myself laughing out loud more than once, and squealing in delight (this proves hard when you’re on the Tube). There’s a lot of humour and she’s managed to work in different scenes and issues from famous movies quite cleverly.
I recommend it to anyone who’s ever wished a little more romance into their lives, and to those capable (like me) to quote entire scenes from rom-coms when the situation allows it.
I certainly hope Ali will write a third instalment as I feel like Scarlett hasn’t yet given us all she can.
